A Welcoming
Crouched down in tall, overgrown grass, I slowly scan the area for any signs of life. I try to stay as concealed as possible, but it feels as if the whole world can hear the accelerated heartbeat resonating between my ears. The structure before me appears to be something from a war zone or horror movie- standing silent, desolate, and covered with blemishes from all of the hardships it has endured over the years. Broken windows emit a musty smell that would remind most people of an infrequently used basement, forcing them away, yet this only entices me more. This will be my entryway to a world seen by few.
After a few more glances across the landscape, I exhale deeply, rise up from the brush, and jog quickly to my destination. I slide my body through the window, carefully avoiding the glass teeth that threaten to slice my skin. Once inside, I duck down and peer through the opening; luckily, the grounds remain free of anyone who may threaten my exploration. Letting out a sigh of relief, I turn around to enjoy my prize: beautiful architecture spotted with decades of mold, peeling paint, and artifacts that that hold memories long since forgotten. This is an adventurer’s playground, a photographer’s dream come true.
This is Divine Decay.
